6 Ways We Know God Loves Us With An Everlasting Love

“I have loved you with an everlasting love.” (Jeremiah 31:3) I did a word study on “everlasting”. You know what I learned? I learned that in Hebrew, it means everlasting! Seriously, it means a “longtime duration”, “future time”, “times to come”, “long time back”, and “eternity”. It means from beginning to end. There are 6 statements in Jeremiah 31:1-4 that shows us God really does love us with an everlasting love.

6 Ways We Know God Loves Us With An Everlasting Love

From beginning to end, God loves us. He really loves us. But what Jeremiah 31:1-4 also tells us is that (1) we are God’s people (2) that we will survive battles (the “sword”) we are thrown into (3) we find grace in the wilderness when we are wandering, unsure of what to do or what would come next (4) when we are tired and want rest from all the uncertainty and wandering, God shows up, not giving us rest, rather His presence, and when God shows up He (5) continues to be faithful to us and (6) rebuilds us, restores us, and redeems us so that (7) we will find our joy and way.

What does God’s Love Look Like in Real Life?

It's easy to say God loves us and think about it abstractly, but what does God’s love look like when I’m being gaslighted and beaten by my husband or when my “daddy” is forcing me to have sex with his friends? What does God’s love look like when my child is dying of cancer or when my child has been murdered? What about when the man I’ve loved, honored, and cherished for twenty years decides he’s going to leave me for a younger woman? As a parent, what does God’s love look like when my child has said things to me that cuts like a knife and is living contrary to how he was raised? These are some examples of the “swords” referenced in Jeremiah 31:2 that we’ve faced.

Like the Israelites, we may be a little lost during and following those battles. Like you, I’ve survived the sword – multiple times. I’ve been lost in the wilderness of distrust, depression, and loneliness following my battles. But, you know what, God showed up. In the weariness, He was there, just as He was for the Israelites as written about in Jeremiah.

Do You Believe Jesus Loves You?

You may be reading this while on the mountaintop – everything is going great, you are happy and joyful. You may be reading this in the valley – you don’t know how you will take your next breath. You may be somewhere in between. God loves you wherever you are. As we look at Scripture and see the stories of women woven throughout the Bible, we can see that God has loved us with an everlasting love – from beginning to end. We’ll explore those stories through the course of this study. Their stories and experiences transcend time to show us the love of God. We’ve been taught since we were children, “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so”. Do you believe Jesus loves you?

You Are SEEN and Loved

Women often feel unseen and not valued. I help woemn understand how God sees us, values us, and gives women value throughout Scripture, so that women can live in the freedom of God’s everlasting love. That’s why I wrote the Bible study, Seen: A study of five Biblical women who were deceived, raped, and disregarded yet seen by God. The stories of the five Old Testament women featured in this Bible study may be your story, too. God wants you to know he sees you and loves you.
